October 26, 2015

Hey mom! I haven't gotten the package, hopefully it comes soon. It's
getting really cold Haha and yes I want toffee!! That sounds so good!
So this week was definitely something else, it was a really rough
week. We had a lot of meetings and we went on an exchange and stuff so
we weren't able to do a lot of work in our area until the past few
days. In these last few days no one has listened to us--ha--it's been
really annoying but we will have a better week this next week I can
feel it:) My French is really slow, it's not improving very much
haha so I don't say anything in the French lessons we have. But I am
starting to understand it a little better!

It's so beautiful here, I'm taking it for granted but I try to appreciate it when We are walking around. Oh and we did a service project
on one of the islands off of Maine and it was the most beautiful place I've ever seen. That was definitely the highlight of the week, doing service for people and doing it in a stunning place is the best. I hope we can go there and
do it again, and I'll send pictures of it.

Sorry that I don't have a lot to write, there wasn't a whole lot that happened this week. There will be next week though, we will work extra hard so I can have more to write.

My thought for the week is about the Holy Ghost. I realized
this just yesterday about how we always recognize Jesus Christ and our
Heavenly Father but we don't recognize the Holy Ghost as much as we
should. That's something I've been trying to work on this week is
recognizing the Holy Ghost more, because we can't be in the presence
of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ yet but we can always be in the
presence of the Holy Ghost if we just recognize it, and do the right
things so we are worthy to have him in our presence.

I love you all, I hope you all have a good week!

October 19, 2015

Hi! Another great week!

We didn't have a lot of success teaching

new investigators this week, but it was still a good week. And it's
starting to get sooo cold so we better find some new investigators so
we can be in their warm apartments and not on the streets haha but we
spent a lot of time teaching our new investigators who
both are African refugees.  His story is way detailed but
holy cow some of these Africans have the most insane stories I've ever
heard. They have all been through so much and our one investigator especially has
the strongest testimony, it's so fun to teach him and see him progress
even more.

Jeanne is amazing too, but I can't connect with her as well

because she only speaks French so I can only pick up a little of what
she says. Life here is good though, I'm really enjoying it and my
companion is great. It really helps that he's from Alpine cause when
I'm homesick or something we can just talk about Alpine and Lone Peak and
stuff and it makes me happy.

Teaching people is so much fun and it's so fun to see them progress and progress.

It's the most rewarding feeling ever. There are some crazy homeless people here
but they are harmless haha! It's fun because it brings some excitement to street
contacting hahaha. I get it all out here, and it's the best.

The ward out here is very different, there are probably 100 people in the ward.

About 30 of them are Africans and all of the members are so nice
and have made me feel really at home. I'm really loving it out here,
and it's good to hear everyone is doing good at home too.

I love you all and I hope you have a good week. The church is true!! Love you!!

Oct. 12, 2015

What uppppppp??

Wow this week was insane. I am slowly adjusting but it's been pretty rough, and you will understand why hahaha. I'm in Portland, Maine! And it's a city that has a lot of African refugees-- it's a French speaking part of the mission! So I'm not sure if my mission call will change but there's a decent chance!  So yeah I don't understand people very much but it's pretty cool! Who would have guessed haha.

Some of the food isn't too bad but it's definitely different! My companion speaks perfect French, so when we go to teach lessons I don't even say anything! I feel bad because I can't keep up or add anything but I'm slowly getting there. Oh yeah my companion, so funny story. He's from Alpine hahaha and Jared and I have known him our whole lives basically! His name is Elder Johnson, and he's Jared's age. I know for a fact Jared knows who he is but yeah that's nice to have him because we can talk about Alpine and Lone Peak and stuff so it's cool that I can relate to someone so much.

Mom and Dad, out here I realize how much you did for me and I'm sorry I didn't express my gratitude to you as much as I should have. I guess better late than never but yeah thanks, it means so much to me.

I want to hear about hunting season! Sports! Etc just tell me everything. I'm sorry this letter took so long, I had it typed up and it never sent I guess but, yeah, sorry Mom, it probably gave you a heart attack! hahaha I love you all so much--thank you for everything. I'm really learning to enjoy it out here. There's a Mormon message called "Daily bread" by D. Todd Christopherson and I want you all to go watch it. It's an amazing way to look at things, because if you are struggling with anything God will give you enough strength to make it through that day, even if you feel like it's never going to end, you just have to look at it from a daily standpoint. He will always give you enough for that day. I've watched that video a million times out here haha. Relying on God isn't always the easiest because we are all impatient and want solutions right in that moment, but if you really learn to trust God he will always help you, either a lot or else little by little. That's my short challenge and message for you:) Go watch it, it's amazing.

Love you all, keep the emails Rollin--I love it!!  Have a good week!!

Aunt Leslie works for Delta at the Salt Lake airport and met up with Cam when he was checking in for his flight today!  She was really sweet and bought he and his companion Cafe Rio (they were starving--hadn't had breakfast yet!)  She took them some of her homemade bread and cookies and took these pictures to send to us. Thanks, Leslie!!

Hey mom! Thanks for the dear elder letters. I love getting them. Tell Gandma and Grandpa Garrick thanks for theirs too. Man, this week has flown by-- I can't believe it. Me and my companion are the zone leaders so we have had to do a bunch of stuff but its been pretty chill for the most part. Me and my companion get along really well and we have a lot of fun.

My camera has been freaking out so hopefully I can get it to send pictures but if not I will figure it out later. But yeah this week has been awesome. Me and my district were able to give the sisters blessings and a couple other missionaries that have been having problems, too, and it has been incredible because even in hard times, the people that received the blessing talked about how much they felt the spirit during it and have all felt peace.

The priesthood is truly amazing. We have been teaching fake investigators this week and my companion and I have done pretty well we feel like. Even though they are fake we have had so much fun doing it and have felt the spirit so much when we have done it, too. I still miss everyone and stuff back home but I'm really loving it here. I can't believe I leave to the mother land New Hampshire here on Monday! I'm stoked. and nervous. But mostly stoked. My zone and I have become really close, we have a ton of fun together but can still stay focused so i'ts awesome! I can't wait to eat real food too, I'm so sick of this buffet MTC food, its like chuck a rama for every meal.

But overall I'm doing really good, its been great so far! We went to the temple this morning and it was so cool. We have just have been doing some laundry too and that about sums up my day haha.  I miss you all and I love you all. I'm so grateful for this gospel, it truly blesses lives and that definitely includes mine. Thanks for all the letters and emails and that package full of food was SO awesome too. Thanks so much!  I love you!
